Classification Tables
Explore Artifacts by their classifications
First of all, choose an artifact to explore all definitions in the Classification card. The artifact and classification data are under continuous revision, they are not closed and can be changed progressively over time.
Classification card shows in alphabetical order the generic names with which a typological table has been carried out. Use the Search tool above the classification list to quickly find a definition. The icon next to a classification name indicates that its typological table is currently accessible from the Tables option menu. Click on a group name to see all its definitions in the Typologies card.
Typologies card shows all the definitions in a hierarchical structure, from the most generic name to the most specific subdivision details. Names marked with an asterisk* are considered canonical names. By canonical we understand the name of greater use in the scientific bibliography. The other lesser-used names are considered typological synonyms of old usage. The greatest information about a typology is centralized in the canonical names. Typologies marked with the green icon have the basic data almost revised and completed. Click on a typology name to explore its descriptive data in the Typologie file card, the Images gallery card, and the Relationship card.
Typology File card collects a summary with the descriptive synthesis of the selected typology. Canonical name means indicates whether the name is of primary or secondary use in the scientific literature. Suggested dating shows the chronology in use of typology. Total objects shows the total number of objects available in the database. Synonyms list older definitions of names with which the typology has been referred in the publications. Names marked with a green point are considered canonical names. Click on a synonym to navigate quickly to another typology and classification definition. Sources list the bibliography of the most relevant studies about the selected typology.
Images card is the gallery of the graphic documentation. The images are classified in tabs by keywords. The number under the image links to the paper where it was published. Click on the image to magnify it. Click on the icon to open the large image in a new window.
Relationship card shows the closest evolutionary tree of the selected typology built with the canonical names. Parent and Children point to direct evolution of a type by its forms. Ancestor and Descendants point to a typology jump. Sibling are types with the same parent that cannot yet be classified as ancestor or descendants. Cousins are the similis types but with different geographical origin. Clicking on a name you can navigate through an timeline and in this way explore the evolutionary changes between definitions.
